For the past six years, she has been part of the City Architect’s team at the Municipality of Amsterdam, designing public structures such as bridges and small buildings in the public space. In parallel, she runs her own design and research studio. She operates within a dual practice where research and design continuously inform one another, allowing her to contextualise practical architectural solutions and experimentations within larger systemic frameworks.
Emma advocates for a landscape-driven approach where living systems are central to architecture, with a strong emphasis on locally rooted and sourced materials.
For three years, in collaboration with CHRITH architecten, she has been conducting an extensive research into biobased architecture and bioregional strategies, studying both the technical applications of biobased materials in pioneer projects and the processes that enable them.
